Last Updated 02/23/2005 - Added enties for the new soundtracks and RTS.  The following section represents every legitimate CD and CD single I've located to date. Please note that promotional and "live" CD listings will be found on their respective pages.   Note: I've offered up my reviews of the major Pantera releases below. The opinions stated are just that..opinions. I won't respond to any "fuck you, asshole " mail from ignorant half-wits who disagree .If you'd like to provide a well thought out review of any of the items on this site, I'd be glad to add it to the page !   If you have or know of any officially released CD not presented here, please contact me with the information and I'll add it when time permits. Please include as many details as possible including serial #'s, track listings, and artwork scans.

Cowboys From Hell
Label  Atco - 91372-2 - USA - 1990
Time Approx 55 minutes
Comments Cowboys From Hell, Pantera's first major label release and second release featuring the bands
new NoLa vocalist, Philip Anselmo. The band that, just a few years earlier, skated the razors
edge between metal and glam, finally displayed true colors providing , in my humble opinion,
the best Pantera album to date. A full-on thrash and trash masterpiece that defined the
generation of metal to come. I often wish Pantera would head back in this direction and stay
away from Trent Reznor.

Vulgar Display Of Power
Label  Atco - 91758-2 - USA - 1992
Time Approx 55 minutes
Comments Vulgar Display Of Power, Pantera's second Atco release, is by far the favorite Pantera album
among fans as it's been the most promoted and successful album for the band to date. As seen
by the sheer number of promotional items, radio airplay, etc, its obvious that this second LP, as
potent as Cowboys From Hell, catapulted the band into the realm of the "big bands". The album,
a bit slower and groovier than Cowboys From Hell, shifts in high gear from track one and doesn't
let up once. Angrier vocals, heavier riffs, and guitar frenzies that'd make Yngwie dizzy, make this
release my second favorite Pantera offering. Cover art a bit disturbing ? Check out the facts
behind the Photo.

Far Beyond Driven
Label  Atco - 92302-2 - USA - 1994
Time Approx 55 minutes
Comments Far Beyond Driven, Pantera's third release on Atco in 1994 was met with mixed reactions as the
band crossed the delicate line between heavy and hardcore. Many of the fans familiar with the
prior albums felt the new album to be a bit too hostile, although I figure the whole event weeded
out the weak wanna-be Pantera fans anyway, .... all's well that end's well. The band again
diverges into new territory moving away from the slow groove of the prior release to a much heavier
pace with Phil occasionally mutating into the dry lung vocal martyr territory. I was uncertain about
some of the tracks when this release came out and it took a bit of time for me to fully appreciate
it. Tracks like Becoming, 5 Minutes Alone, Slaughtered, Good Friends, and Shedding Skin are
instant masterpieces. All in all this is my third favorite Pantera release. I'll get slack from all you
newbie Pantera fans, but you don't know shit...so shut up ;->

The Great Southern Trendkill
Label  Atco - USA - 1996
Time Approx 65 minutes
Comments The Great Southern Trendkill, Pantera's fourth and most experimental release on Atco in 1996
was met with even more mixed reviews, leaving even die-hard fans wondering what the band is
up too. I still can't really decide how I feel about this album. There are moments of brilliance in
one hand and tracks I'd like to bury in the other. To avoid persecution, I'll refrain from rating the
tracks. The band ventures into a wide range of territories including death, thrash, power metal,
ballads, floyd type space sounds, industrial etc......you name it...it's in there. My primary
complaint about this release is Phil's WAY over the top grunting and snorting throughout the
album. I love hearing Phil scream "like the rest of you's", but I think its overdone in places. Phil,
....if you read this...stay the fuck away from Trent Reznor . Lets get back to basics !

but not as RAW.  The songs are taken from various shows in 1996-1997 in the "Tourkill" tour.
This also contains 2 new studio tracks, of which I Can't Hide is definitely my favorite.

Reinventing the Steel
Label  WEA/ELEKTRA ENTERTAINMENT
Time 76:42
Comments Until Meshuggah or Candiria goes platinum, Pantera will remain the unit-shifting kings of mathematical metal; and frankly, after 17 years, the Texas quartet isn't looking to give up its throne without a fight. Reinventing the Steel, Pantera's first studio album since 1996's The Great Southern Trendkill, starts with a boot to the throat and just keeps on kicking -- hard -- until you've understood that its title is meant to be taken damn seriously.

Guitarist Dimebag Darrell's high-tensile riffs march in and out of a violent lockstep with the rhythm section, and on such tracks as "You've Got to Belong to It" and "Death Rattle," his axe screams with off-the-fretboard slide runs and Slayer-esque harmonics. (Slayer guitarist Kerry King, incidentally, appears on the bludgeoning "Goddamn Electric.") Phil Anselmo remains one of metal's most fluid vocalists, leaping from a melody to a tonsil-ripping scream as if it were as natural for him as breathing. And drummer Vinnie Paul and bassist Rex Brown not only start and stop on a dime; they prove that punch-press heavy metal can swing.

There's not an ounce of fat on this album: not a weak vocal, a bum solo, or a misfired beat among Steel's 10 tracks. And with such pouty-pussed, self-pitying metal bands as Korn still generating mass appeal, it's refreshing to see that a chart-topping bruiser like Pantera can kick our asses without asking us to feel its pain first.

between 1991 and 1996. The inside cover has a list of Australian tour dates, and the back

point. The cover shows for Planet Caravan is osmething I've never seen. If this was truly issued

Comments Single from the Detroit Rock City Soundtrack.  Pantera often plays parts of this
song during the middle of their closing song - Cowboys From Hell.  The CD came
in a plain clear case with no artwork (above left is just from the full soundtrack).

Comments I don't think this movie ever made it to the theaters, but went directly to video.  The song
Pantera has on there is "Immortally Insane".  I think it kicks ass, and I like this one better
than most of the songs on RTS.

Most "soundtracks" are little more than an excuse to throw a bunch of songs by popular bands together on one album, with little or no connection to the movie they're being marketed with. The soundtrack to Heavy Metal 2000, on the other hand, carries a certain consistency in the atmosphere and flavor of the material that probably lends itself well to the dark sci-fi and fantasy imagery of this long-awaited sequel to the cult 1981 animated classic.

Monster Magnet's "Silver Future" weds a loop from Aerosmith's "Walk This Way" to frontman Dave Wyndorf's sleek psychedelia, while Pantera's "Immortally Insane" features the scariest riff this side of Black Sabbath, and new band Sinisstar's "Psychosexy" is a mean, lean, sleazy affair.

Other cuts by Machine Head, Full Devil Jacket, Billy Idol, and Bauhaus are strong additions; System Of A Down, Days Of The New, and the hideous Insane Clown Posse fall flat with their contributions. Still, Heavy Metal 2000 is more thematically and musically satisfying that most recent albums of its ilk.

Comments I love the entire soundtrack, and this is Pantera's best song in years!  This
blows away everything on RTS, and TGSTK, and the 2 new ones from
