Updated 02/23/05 - Added 4 new promo items for '101' along
with the Mosh Pit Survival Kit The following section represents every promotional item I've located to date. For those unaware of the term, promo (or promotional) items are usually very
limited CD pressings presented to radio stations, music outlets and other media organizations as an attempt by the
record company to promote the band. In some cases, promo items offer unique songs, remixes etc. Additionally,
many promo items, as you'll see, come packaged with unique artwork. Promotional items are always marked "For Promotional Use Only, Not For Resale", although the manage to find their
way from the radio stations to hole
in the wall record stores. I've also included non-CD related promotional items towards the bottom of the page.
Please note that the
following promos are all CD. I have included any promotional vinyl in the Vinyl section . Got it ? If you have or know of any promotional
item not presented here,
please contact me with the information and I'll add it when time
permits. Please include as many details
as possible including serial #'s, track listings, and artwork scans.

This promotional gimmick is, I
assume , very rare as I've only seen one advertised. I was able to
pick this copy up for 40.00 dollars. It contains a
jockstrap, cup, band-aid, condom, aspirin,
earplugs and a set of safety goggles. Very bizarre
item. |

This promotional cassette release
is a bit strange in that in plays small 30 second segments of

This CD promo released in support
of the Official Live 101 album features the full CD. There is no
front insert and the back cover features a brief
biography on the band. Oddly enough, the track list
lists Hostile and Fucking Hostile and this is
supposed to be the Clean Sampler. I've been unable
to locate this and would like to thank Rob McNealy for the information. |

This CD promo released around the
time of TGSTK was an attempt to provide music retailers
with a (PG) sampler of the new album as specified by
the front cover sticker claiming "songs
from the new album you can play in your store."
The back cover provides a track listing along w\

This CD promo released around the

This CD promo released around the
time of Vulgar Display Of Power is the coolest of the
three in-store samplers , featuring 7 of the
"non-offensive" tracks off the album. The caption
on the sleeve reads "Seven Tracks From Pantera's New Album...Which
Will Not Offend
Even The Most Timid Of Customers." I
believe this piece is somewhat
difficult to locate. |

This release, issued in support of
Cowboys From Hell represents the first promo CD issued that
I am aware of and is very rare and difficult to
find. The disc features no cover art but has a silk-
screen of
the back of the album which looks really cool. The disc contains the three most
popular tracks from the album including Cowboys,
Psycho Holiday, and Cemetery Gates. |

This CD promo released around the
time of Vulgar Display of Power is somewhat scarce and
considered a bit more rare than most promo. The
silk-screened photo of the band on the disc is
totally cool. Back picture features a close up promo

for the This Love promo CD. The second track of this
release is a killer live version although
I haven't determined it's location or date yet. |

This CD promo released around the
time of Far Beyond Driven is again, somewhat scarce and
more difficult to locate compared to the other
planet caravan promo. This promo is one of my
favorites as it not only includes two live track
but also contains the By Demons remix done by
Broadrick of Godflesh in addition to a 20 live date
tour itinerary. The live tracks are taken from
the 1992 Moscow festival when Pantera played with
AC/DC and Metallica. |

This CD promo features some real
bizarre cover art of a foot with large nails through it. This
promo is relatively easy to find and is much less
rare than the alternate Planet Caravan promo

front reading "Platinum album...sold out
arena tour". The disc itself, is silk-screened
with a fuzzy picture of wood planks. |

This release, issued in support of
Vulgar Display Of Power, features the LP version of Fucking
Hostile along with 3 bizarre remixes of Fucking
Hostile, By Demons Be Driven and Walk. Two
of the remix version are available on disc although
I believe the "Decranial Mix" of Walk may
be exclusive to this release. Cover art features a
picture of Phil on the front and some sort of
heavy equipment on the back. Both Broadrick of
Godflesh and Thirwell of Foetus provided
remixes for this promo. |

This release, issued in support of
Vulgar Display Of Power is an unusual promo in that it's
packaged in a jewel case with a paper sleeve that encases the whole CD case.
The front
states "Everything You Wanted To Know About A Band....* But Were Afraid To Play "
.
The cover art of the CD goes on to tout the strong points of the up and coming (at that
time)
Pantera. This is a great release and is one of my favorite promos. |

This release, issued in support of
The Great Southern Trendkill, is an edited version of the track
"Floods". The track is considered too long

this release, although the back cover has the usual

This release, issued in support of
The Great Southern Trendkill is an interesting release based upon
the unique edited remix version of the song. The
edited version starts off without the backward
guitar sound effects and actually ends like a normal
track instead of starting into Pt. 2. The other
interesting thing is hidden second track not listed
in the credits which features the LP version of the
single. The front cover is actually a sticker on a
jewel case. The back insert features normal track
listings and credits. |

This release, issued in support of
the soundtrack for the Tales From The Crypt movie "Demon
Knight" features an edited version of the
original track Cemetery Gates. The cool thing about this
release is the inside portion of the front insert
that features a black n white photo of the Crypt
Keeper himself. The disc is silk screened with a
graphic of the movie advertisement. The back
cover features still shots from the movie. Great
item ! |

Far Beyond Driven (German Promotional CD Stand-up) |
Label |
EastWest Records (Atco) - 1994 - USA |
Time |
Approx. 55 minutes |
Comments |
This release, issued as a
promotional German in-store display is totally bizarre. The front
cover features something out of Hellraiser (or the
cover of a Carcass album)....Dental Hell.
The three fold pamphlet has weird head anatomy
pictures inside with press information for
the German release of Far Beyond Driven. The final
page of the booklet has a CD tray like
attachment with a plain silver disc. There is no
writing on either side and shows no indication
of what CD it is. This is definitely one of the
rarest Pantera collectibles. Expect to pay upwards
of 50 - 60.00 dollars if you can even find it.
I recently thought I'd found a second copy at a
record store although after closer inspection
turned out to be an alternate version of the
promotional folder without the CD. The inside
diagrams are similar in nature but different to the
first folder. This too, is extremely rare. |

Comments |
This release, issued by the popular
radio show The Album Network, is a compilation of tracks
by various artists on various labels. The CD
features This Love as track 11. The cool thing
this release is the short promo write up on the
band. "The sales picture
on Pantera continues to
gain ground each and every day. The
group is still on tour with Skid Row and sales on Vulgar
Display Of Power are over 260,000.
Consider the fact that Pantera has been #1 at Metal Radio
for the past 12 weeks and is now
poised for mainstream success with Rock Radio airplay
entering the picture. The video for
This Love is being shot by the same director who did
Nirvana's "Come As You
Are" video." This is the kind of
corporate bullshit Phil's always ranting
about....what a bunch of AOR conformist bullshit.
Anyway...cool promo. |
